Bare Creek Trail Run

Bare Creek Trail Run returned for its second year since the pandemic. I had the pleasure of ringing the starter's bell and participating in this year's run.

The course runs through Garigal National Park - some beautiful scenery and some tough uphill climbs.

North and South Turramurra Listening Posts

An important part of being an MP is hearing from my constituents about issues of concern to them.

I met with constituents in North and South Turramurra on a beautiful Spring day.

Waitara Community Meeting

After having to restrict face to face contact for several months due to the pandemic, in November I was pleased to hold a community meeting at Waitara Magpies and meet constituents in person.

The topics of concern were primarily around Australia’s economic recovery.

Chat with Nick Eudale at Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels delivers meals across Australia, to those who are unable to purchase or prepare their own.

I spoke with Manager of Meals on Wheels Ku-ring-gai & Hornsby, Nick Eudale, about how they adapted their activities during the pandemic to ensure that they were still delivering meals to those who needed them.

Thanks to their dedicated team of volunteers, the organisation was able to continue to deliver meals to senior Australians across Bradfield. Watch my conversation with Nick here.

Catch-up with local businesses in the electorate

Covid has been tough on many in 2021, and small businesses have been hit particularly hard, by extended lockdowns and mandatory closures.

I checked in on some local businesses, to hear about how they have fared throughout the year.

Café Feoh – a Lindfield institution, is known by local tradies, commuters and my electorate office – for their delicious Vietnamese flavours – I spoke with Thuy about how the support of the local community helped her business get through the pandemic. In Roseville Park, I chatted with Olivier - Owner and Manager of French café and restaurant – Sous le Soleil, who explained their biggest challenges of the past 18 months. Click here to listen to my conversation with Olivier.

I also caught up with Dale at Roseville Fresh Foods, who has owned and managed the business for 5 years. Dale’s business benefitted from the Australian Government’s cash flow boost – with which Dale was able to purchase a new refrigerator to stock product. National Science Week

To celebrate National Science Week, I joined students at St Ives High School and Barker College to discuss the science behind mobile phones.

We spoke about the Year of 5G and how electromagnetic energy (EME) is integral to our everyday lives.

Visit to Action Laser in Hornsby

Under the Morrison Government’s $30 million Commercialisation Fund, local Bradfield business ActionLaser received $558,500 to commercialise its ‘MeltFilter’ disc.

Specialising in manufacturing micro-perforated metal laser screening, ActionLaser has developed a sustainable means of recycling plastic waste, through its invention of the ‘MeltFilter’ disc (pictured below).

I caught up with Bevan at his plant in Hornsby to learn a bit more about how these discs work.

Visit to 360 Med Care in Pymble

Under the Morrison Government’s $55 million Manufacturing Modernisation Fund, local Bradfield business 360 Med Care received $1 million to further grow their business.

Specialising in advanced orthopaedic manufacturing, 360 Med Care will use this funding to upgrade their manufacturing operations.

I visited 360 Med Care’s head office in Pymble and was impressed with the technological capabilities of their operations.

Visit to Bupa Aged Care in St Ives

It was great to visit the Bupa Aged Care facility in St Ives, where I met a number of residents including Neville, a retired journalist.

All of the residents at Bupa St Ives have received both rounds of the COVID-19 vaccine, and feel safer for it.

Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize

It was a pleasure to provide the opening address at the 2021 Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize – won this year by Caroline Rothwell’s ‘Vault’.

The Prize is an initiative of Ravenswood School for Girls, aimed at advancing art and opportunity for women in Australia.

Congratulations to those artists, both emerging and established who had works on display.

Visit to Guru Nanak Gurudwara Turramurra Sikh Temple

I had the pleasure of attending the 400th Birthday celebrations for Guru Tegh Bahadur – one of the founders of Sikhism, at the Guru Nanak Gurudwara Turramurra Sikh Temple.

Thank you to the Temple for inviting me to join your celebrations.

Visit to All Saints Airforce War Memorial Church

The All Saints Airforce War Memorial Church in West Lindfield runs a 22-kilowatt solar system on their roof, increasing their energy efficiency and ensuring that the running of their church is environmentally sustainable.

The Church was a recipient of the Solar Communities Grant, which covered the cost of installing their new solar panels.
