ABC Geraldton Story: Mobile Coverage Programme Visit to Durack

HOST:

The Federal Government has met stakeholders in the state’s south to discuss areas in need of improved mobile phone coverage. At the last federal election, one-hundred million dollars was committed to regional mobile phone coverage throughout Australia. Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications Paul Fletcher held a discussion in Manjimup yesterday, as part of his tour of regional WA. He says the discussions will help the Government make decisions on which areas receive funding.

PAUL FLETCHER:

To provide some funding to areas of high priority, that haven’t got coverage and don’t look like getting it any time soon from the carriers themselves, and this is a way for using public money to subsidise the provision of coverage in some of the many areas that don’t have coverage and need it.
