Bowel Cancer Awareness

Bowel Cancer Awareness

I met with Bradfield constituents. Amy and Sara, who are advocates for bowel cancer awareness, becoming committed to the issue after Sara’s stepfather died from bowel cancer at the age of 45.

We were joined by Matt Cross, MP for Davidson, who was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer – after an operation he is now undergoing chemotherapy, but his progress is good.

Bowel cancer is highly treatable if detected early – and from 1 July anyone aged 45-49 can apply for a free bowel cancer testing kit through the National Bowel Cancerr Screening Program or by calling 1800 627 701.

As Matt’s experience show, bowel cancer can strike younger people. Early-onset bowel cancer (those under the age of 50 years), now account for 1-in-9 new bowel cancer diagnoses.

I urge you to talk to your GP if you are concerned.
