Werrington Arterial Road hits halfway mark

Construction of the new Werrington Arterial Road at Claremont Meadows has reached a major milestone with work on the project hitting the halfway mark.

Minister for Major Projects Paul Fletcher said the $70 million upgrade, which links the M4 Motorway and Great Western Highway, formed an important part of the $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan.

“This upgrade is an important part of our plan to improve key arterial roads in Western Sydney, reduce travel times and improve safety for motorists in the area,” Mr Fletcher said.

Minister for Roads Duncan Gay said with more than 50 per cent of the project now completed traffic this week moved onto a new section of Gipps Street and Kent Road, north of Sunflower Drive and south of the Caddens Road intersection.

“It is great to see this project powering ahead so quickly, getting benefits to the motorists sooner. I look forward to the upgrade opening by the end of the year,” Mr Gay said.

“The Australian and NSW governments are delivering a sensible road network for the future for the people of Western Sydney. This particular project is an investment which should have been made decades ago and we’re getting on with the job.”

Federal Member for Lindsay Fiona Scott said the project will also feature a new shared path, including a bridge across the M4 Motorway, to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

“Once completed, the new Werrington Arterial Road will provide a new connection to the M4 Motorway to accommodate growth areas in Werrington. It will also help to reduce congestion on north-south corridors of Mamre Road and The Northern Road,” Ms Scott said.

New South Wales Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies said the Werrington Arterial Road upgrade includes widening a two kilometre section of the Kent Road and Gipps Street corridor to four lanes and building two new east facing ramps on the M4 Motorway to increase capacity and improve travel times for road users.
