Updated .au Domain Administration Terms of Endorsement Released

The Morrison Government has today released updated Terms of Endorsement for the administrator of the .au internet domain, the .au Domain Administration (auDA), to ensure it remains fit for purpose in supporting Australians connecting online.

auDA is a not-for-profit organisation that since 2002 has worked with a range of stakeholders—including industry, government and the international community—to develop and administer the rules for domains in the .au country code Top Level Domain.

Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the 2021 review of the Terms formed part of the regular review process to safeguard the efficacy of the .au domain administration.

“Australia’s .au domain space is a critical piece of our national infrastructure that underwrites significant innovation and economic growth,” Minister Fletcher said. “The Government’s updated Terms of Endorsement will guide Australia’s .au domain administrator so that it will continue to support the interests of Australian internet users.”

This release follows an extensive review of the Terms by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, including a public consultation process.

The new Terms are based on a set of core principles, including:

  • Engaging with the Australian Government and with a range of Government departments and agencies, including eSafety;
  • Supporting trust and confidence in .au;
  • Promoting principles of competition, fair trading and consumer protection;
  • Supporting fair and transparent multi-stakeholder engagement;
  • Supporting a membership structure that reflects the diversity of the Australian community;
  • Maintaining effective governance processes that are transparent, accountable, support effective decision-making and promote the interests of the Australian community.
