Turnbull Government calls for nominations to Forum on Western Sydney Airport

The Turnbull Government is calling for nominations to the Forum on Western Sydney Airport (FOWSA), an important community consultation forum which the Turnbull Government announced we would establish when we released the airport’s final Environmental Impact Statement in September.

A range of skills and expertise will be needed from across the community, the aviation industry as well as local and state government to ensure we develop a robust forum for community engagement. I expect to announce these appointments in the first half of next year.

I will now be writing to Western Sydney MPs and Councils to seek nominations to the group.

Additionally, anyone who feels they possess experience or background that would equip them to contribute effectively to FOWSA’s work is welcome to express their interest by emailing [email protected].

In addition, I will be publishing the Terms of Reference for this forum, including its role in receiving community feedback concerning airspace management, flight path options, noise abatement and aircraft operating procedures.

It is very important that community perspectives on these issues are heard and considered as we develop plans for Western Sydney Airport.

The flight path planning process will take a number of years and consultation through FOWSA will be an important part of that process. Key principles that will govern flight path planning – for example, that there will be no merge point over any residential area – are set out in the final Environmental Impact Statement.

I look forward to receiving the views of the community on Western Sydney Airport through FOWSA.
