STATEMENT

COP28 DUBAI DELEGATION

I will be attending COP28 in Dubai from 8 December to 13 December, as part of a delegation hosted by Environmental Leadership Australia.

I welcome the opportunity to meet with stakeholders from across the world, such as government officials, businesses, scientists, and advocates. 

As we transition towards net zero, the role of science and technology is critical.

As Shadow Minister for Science I am looking forward to attending COP28 to learn more about the wide array of technologies being developed and deployed – including nuclear and renewable technologies, as well as key transition fuels like natural gas – to achieve this transition.

There are many Australian companies doing amazing work to develop such technologies – SunDrive in Southern Sydney, Minerals Carbon International in Newcastle and Jupiter Ionics at Monash University in Melbourne, to name three that I have visited – and I hope to learn about many other such companies at COP28.
