Road upgrades for Hawkesbury Showground

Hawkesbury Showground will benefit from a re-elected Turnbull Coalition Government with the announcement today of a $300,000 commitment to the upgrading of roads within the showground.

Minister for Major Projects, Territories and Local Government, Paul Fletcher joined Federal Member for Macquarie Louise Markus today to announce this commitment.

“Louise Markus is a strong and effective Member of Parliament, representing her local community – and successfully making the case in Canberra for this vital funding,” Mr Fletcher said.

“This project will improve the internal roads within the Showground by upgrading them with bitumen and constructing drainage. This will create better access for patrons and allow the Showground to support more events,” Mrs Markus said.

“The current grounds in Clarendon have hosted the iconic Hawkesbury Agricultural Show since 1987, and as a major showground in NSW it has attracted events from far and wide, particularly equestrian events.

“These events bring a multitude of economic benefits to the local community through tourism and supporting local business. The improved drainage system will enhance this by attracting even more participants to the grounds,” Mrs Markus said.

“The Turnbull Coalition Team is dedicated to building stronger communities across Australia. We understand that by investing in projects such as this one, we help grow a more vibrant and viable community.”

This commitment builds on the significant investment that the Turnbull Government is making in Macquarie in 2016-17, which includes $460,000 under the Black Spots Programme, $4.6 million in Roads to Recovery payments, $3.6 million under the National Stronger Regions Fund and $920,000 under the Bridges Renewal Programme.

The Turnbull Government is also spending $2.5 million on the Ross Street Intersection upgrade, $20 million on the Richmond Bridge and $27.8 million on the Great Western Highway – Mount Victoria Village Safety Works, which will all bring significant benefit to Macquarie residents.

The Turnbull Government is spending a record $50 billion on infrastructure from 2013-14 to 2019-20 as part of our carefully structured economic plan to provide jobs and growth and a secure future for Australian families.
