Pozieres Mayor to visit Bradfield Warrior’s Chapel

Federal Member for Bradfield Paul Fletcher said today that he was pleased that the Mayor of Pozieres is visiting Bradfield and the Warrior’s Chapel in St John’s Anglican Church, Gordon.

Mr Fletcher said the visit was particularly important as work continued to plan local activities for the forthcoming Centenary of ANZAC in 2015.

The Bradfield ANZAC Centenary Committee – with representatives of key local stakeholder groups such as Roseville and Hornsby RSL sub-branches and chaired by Major Rod White AM RFD (Retired) – has been established to develop local plans for suitable activities to commemorate the centenary of ANZAC in 2015.

Members of the committee will meet the Mayor of Pozieres.

Pozieres, in France, was a site of a major advance during WWI that saw the 18th Battalion sustain 23 000 casualties including 7 000 lives lost.

At the site of the Warrior’s Chapel in Gordon, the colours of the 18th Battalion are adorned with the Pozieres Battle Cross and other relics from WWI.
