NorthConnex moves to next stage - good news for Bradfield

The announcement by motorway company Transurban Group that it has chosen Lend Lease and Boygues as construction partners for NorthConnex, the critical ‘missing link’ infrastructure linking the M1 (formerly known as the F3) and M2 motorways, is good news, according to Paul Fletcher MP, Member for Bradfield.

“This is yet another tangible step forward on this project, and follows the commitment of $405 million by the Abbott Government federally, and of $405 million by the O’Farrell Government at state level,” said Mr Fletcher.

“The heavy congestion along Pennant Hills Road has a very serious impact on the communities of Wahroonga, Normanhurst and Thornleigh.”

“NorthConnex will be a nine kilometre long tunnel, running under the existing route of Pennant Hills Road, linking the M1 and M2 motorways to reduce congestion, shorten travel times and improve safety”, said Mr Fletcher.

The $3 billion twin tunnel project will move into planning approval phase with Lend Lease and Boygues joining forces with Transurban to design and construct the motorway link for the residents of Sydney and beyond.

NorthConnex will ease traffic congestion, particularly along Pennant Hills Road, enabling commuters and freight trucks to bypass up to 21 traffic lights and reduce travel time by up to 15 minutes. It will also reduce the number of heavy vehicles travelling along Pennant Hills Road by more than 5000 trucks per day.

“NorthConnex is a vital piece of economic infrastructure that will deliver real benefits for the people of Bradfield,” Paul Fletcher said.
