Norfolk Island Administrator reappointed

The Hon Gary Hardgrave has been reappointed as Administrator of Norfolk Island until March 2017, the Australian Government announced today.

Minister for Major Projects, Territories and Local Government Paul Fletcher said Mr Hardgrave’s reappointment provides continuity for the Norfolk Island community as the next stage of reforms are introduced on 1 July 2016.

“Mr Hardgrave’s reappointment reflects the Australian Government’s commitment to support the community and the soon-to-be-established Norfolk Island Regional Council,” Mr Fletcher said.

“Mr Hardgrave has held the position for the past two years and during this time has been instrumental in preparing and supporting Norfolk Island businesses and residents for the changes resulting from these important reforms.”

Mr Fletcher said the Government continues its commitment to improving services and providing opportunities for economic growth on Norfolk Island.

“The introduction of the Australian taxation, social security and healthcare arrangements on 1 July 2016 will ensure the Norfolk Island community has access to the essential services all Australians deserve,” Mr Fletcher said.

“The reforms also strengthen opportunities for the local economy and establish a more sustainable model of governance.

“I look forward to continuing to work closely with Mr Hardgrave and seeing the people of Norfolk Island benefit from these reforms.”
