Moreton Bay Rail Link: Another Albanese Inaccuracy

Labor infrastructure spokesman Anthony Albanese was up to his usual tricks today, making the inaccurate claim that the Moreton Bay Rail Link in Queensland was 'funded by the former Labor Government in partnership with the Queensland Government.'

The total final Commonwealth commitment to the Moreton Bay Rail Link is $583 million.

Of this, only $64.6 million was paid prior to the former Labor Government leaving office in September 2013. In other words, almost 90 per cent of the federal funding for this project was provided by the Coalition Government.

It's typical Labor – to think that announcing a project is the same as actually funding and delivering it.

Albanese also makes a further inaccurate claim that the Turnbull Government 'has failed to invest one new dollar in public transport.'

Just in the last month the Turnbull Government has announced the following public transport funding commitments:

  • · Sydney Metro (rail) - $1.7 billion
  • · Melbourne Metro (rail) - $857.2 million
  • · Perth Forrestfield Airport Link (rail) - $490 million
  • · Adelaide Flinders Link (rail) - $43 million
  • · Parramatta Light Rail - $78 million.

Another day - another Albanese inaccuracy.
