Media Release: Western Sydney Airport invites registrations of interest for Visitor Centre

An on-site visitor centre will give the public a first-class ticket to see Western Sydney Airport unfold in front of their eyes. 

WSA Co, the Government-owned company building Western Sydney Airport, has invited registrations of interest to finalise the design and build the visitor centre, which will include a construction viewing area and interactive exhibition.

Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities Paul Fletcher welcomed the announcement.

“This airport will belong to Western Sydney and we want the community to be able to see what’s happening on site as the terminal and runway take shape,” Mr Fletcher said.

“This will also be an important facility as the Australian and New South Wales Governments, together with Western Sydney Councils, work together to attract international and Australian businesses to locate in Western Sydney to take advantage of the connectivity the airport will offer.”

Assistant Minister for Finance David Coleman said the visitor centre will also include an immersive experience that will tell the story of Western Sydney Airport and the benefits it will bring to the region, particularly in terms of jobs.

“It’s exciting to think some of the students who come to the visitor centre on school excursions may one day be working at the airport,” Mr Coleman said.

Senator for Western Sydney Marise Payne said Western Sydney Airport would support over 11,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction and over 27,000 during operation.

“Western Sydney Airport will be a catalyst for growth in our community and already at this early stage we are seeing local jobs being generated with the announcement last month that three contracts have been awarded, creating up to 300 jobs,” Minister Payne said.

“WSA Co has local employment targets of 30 per cent during construction and 50 per cent during operation, to ensure the airport provides jobs for Western Sydney residents.”

The concept design for the visitor centre has been completed, with an iconic design that complements the local landscape and guides visitors into the exhibition space before opening to a spectacular full-height window view of the construction site.

The registration of interest also includes building office space for airport delivery staff near the visitor centre, which will be located off Eaton Road, in the north western area of the airport site.

Work to build the visitor centre is due to start this year with doors opening in mid-2019.
