The Coalition’s myGov App… launched by a Labor Minister

The Albanese Labor Government has been dragged kicking and screaming into launching the myGov App, an initiative the Coalition Government first commenced development on, Shadow Minister for Government Services, Paul Fletcher MP, said today.

“I welcome this app coming online because it will support Australians to do their business with government simply and safely,” Mr Fletcher said.

“The features that have launched in the app, like the digital wallet and new inbox, were developed under the Coalition as part of our long-term reforms to improve how Australians access government services and payments.

“One of the most significant features of the new app is the use of Digital Identity, which was established under the Coalition.

“This system allows users to verify who they are only once, preventing users having to ping pong between multiple agencies having to constantly re-verify who they are.

“To date, Minister Shorten has proven to be a luddite when it comes to digital service delivery.

“Only last week, his agency culled 1000 ICT contractor jobs, depriving Services Australia of the specialist ICT expertise it needs to drive digital transformation.

“There was not a single new digital service delivery initiative in the Budget – the landmark Digital Identity System wasn’t even mentioned.

“In contrast, there was a promise by this Labor government to drastically increase the size of the public service, something their union mates desperately want.

“On top of this, the Digital Transformation Agency has been removed from Prime Minister & Cabinet – the centre of government – and sent to the bowels of the Department of Finance.

“Minister Shorten’s first instinct is to send Australians into a time warp where old school paper forms reign supreme.

“Clearly, Mr Shorten’s record is at odds with the launch of the myGov app, which the Coalition government did the hard yards on developing and implementing.”
