Media Release: Four more join National Redress Scheme

Federal Minister for Families and Social Services Paul Fletcher has welcomed the entry of four more institutions into the National Redress Scheme. 

“I am pleased that institutions are taking heed of the request for them to join the Redress Scheme as soon as possible,” Mr Fletcher said.

“I cannot over-state the urgency of giving survivors access to redress as soon as they are able.

"As the National Redress Scheme grows and additional institutions join, more applications can be processed and more survivors of institutional child sexual abuse can access support and acknowledgement.”

Institutions that joined the National Redress Scheme today are:

• De La Salle Brothers
• Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia & Papua New Guinea
• The Legacy Club of Brisbane
• Jewish Care Victoria.

“Many survivors have been waiting for acknowledgement of the abuse they experienced. While nothing can make up for the system that so badly let them down, redress can be an important step in the healing process,” said Minister Fletcher.

Redress can include access to counselling services, a direct personal response from the responsible institution for people who want it, and a redress payment.
