MAJOR ROAD UPGRADE TO EASE CONGESTION IN WYONG NSW

As part of our plan for a stronger future for Australia, the Morrison-Joyce Government has announced $336 million as part of the 2022–23 Federal Budget to upgrade the Pacific Highway in Wyong, improving traffic flow, travel times and safety through the town.

This commitment builds on the Coalition’s strong track record of infrastructure delivery, with more than more than $48.5 billion committed to infrastructure projects across NSW since 2013.

The $420 million upgrade is being delivered in partnership with the NSW Government (80:20 split), and will deliver two lanes in each direction between Johnson Road at Tuggerah and Cutler Drive at Wyong, and replace the Wyong River road bridge with two new road bridges.

It will also integrate the rail interchange with bus services, taxi services and disabled and short-term parking, provide new signalised intersections at Rose Street, Anzac Avenue, North Road and Cutler Drive, upgrade the existing intersection at Church Street, and replace the Rose Street rail bridge.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the upgrade will better connect communities, bust congestion and keep motorists moving.

“This is a critical investment that will ensure the Central Coast’s infrastructure keeps pace with the region’s growing population and traffic volume,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

“Our Government is continuing to deliver infrastructure upgrades that create jobs, keep commuters and freight moving safely and efficiently, and strengthen our economy – the length and breadth of our nation.”

Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts Paul Fletcher said the major upgrade would support the growth of the Central Coast.

“The Pacific Highway is the main route through Wyong Town Centre and is a major urban arterial road connecting the northern suburbs of the Central Coast,” Minister Fletcher said.

“With the region expected to grow by 75,000 residents over the next 20 years with most of this growth forecast to occur immediately north of Wyong, the Morrison-Joyce Government is committed to helping improve road infrastructure now, to support commuters and residents into the future.

“This upgrade will not only ease congestion and improve the lievability of Wyong, it will provide a boost to local businesses and employment opportunities with the project supporting 950 direct and indirect jobs during construction.”

The project is expected to commence construction in mid-2024 and be completed by mid-2027.
