Ku-ring-gai’s new SES & RFS Headquarters nearly complete – but fundraising continues to fit out the buildings

Construction of the exciting new Wahroonga headquarters of the Ku-ring-gai Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Service is nearly complete, Paul Fletcher MP, Federal Member for Bradfield and Jonathan O’Dea MP, State Member for Davidson learned yesterday when they visited the construction site at Golden Jubilee Oval in North Wahroonga.

They were shown around by Mark Unsworth and Simon Jones of the RFS and Greg Rappo of the SES.

‘The new buildings – funded by the NSW government and Kuring-gai Council - are nearing completion,’ Mr Fletcher said.

‘However the hardworking volunteers of the RFS and SES need to raise the money to fit out the buildings, with such things as desks, chairs and other necessities.

‘The RFS and SES have launched a fundraising drive to raise $200,000.  They are receiving critical support from the Turramurra and Lindfield Community Banks, which have promised to match every dollar raised on a dollar for dollar basis, up to $100,000 – under their Hero HQ program.

‘It was great to be joined yesterday by David Langdon and Denise Kelly from the Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank Branches.

‘I was very pleased to hand over cheques totalling $3,000 in contributions towards the fundraising efforts – and I want to thank several local business people who immediately and generously offered donations when I approached them.’

The new facilities, opening in May this year, will consist of state of the art training facilities, coordination rooms as well as housing for all SES and RFS vehicles.

‘Ku-ring-gai RFS and SES will have the most advanced brigade headquarters in the Northern Sydney Area, and will place the two local brigades in the best position to respond to threats and call-outs quickly and effectively’, Mr Fletcher said.

‘The Hero HQ initiative between the RFS, SES and the Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank Branches is an important partnership to ensure the RFS and SES reach their target of $200,000.

‘I would encourage Bradfield residents to consider donating to this worthy cause, which they can do by visiting bendigobank.com.au/foundation/herohq.’
