Joint Release with John Cobb: NBN roll-out gathers momentum in Calare

Spring Hill is one of the many towns in Calare now able to access superfast broadband with the NBN Co fixed wireless network, offering internet speeds faster than typical ADSL connections in the cities.

Federal Member for Calare John Cobb, and Paul Fletcher MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications, visited the Spring Hill site today to launch the new fixed wireless NBN facilities in Calare.

“Today’s launch at this fantastic site in Spring Hill signals another important milestone towards delivering new fixed wireless NBN facilities which will benefit local residents in the region,” Mr Cobb said.

In the Calare electorate around 1500 premises are now able to order a fixed wireless service.  The localities with services available include Forest Reefs, Glenroi, March, Molong West, Nashdale, Orange West, Spring Creek, Windera, Lyndhurst, Orton Park and Spring Hill Town.

“The activation of over 10 fixed wireless towers in Calare in the past four weeks shows that the NBN roll-out is making good progress in Calare,” Mr Cobb said.

The fixed wireless network utilises advanced 4G technology to deliver speeds of up to 25 megabits per second, enabling multiple high definition videos to be streamed at one time.

“The delivery of these fixed wireless facilities is one of the many ways in which the Federal Government is working to deliver on its pledge to get the NBN roll-out back on track,” Mr Fletcher said.

The Coalition will invest up to $1.2 billion more in rural Australia to ensure the satellite and fixed wireless networks are able to cope with demand.

Since the election, the fixed wireless network has more than doubled the number of premises it passes, with more than 137,000 homes and business in rural Australia covered by the network.

“This announcement in Spring Hill shows that we are strongly committed to getting the job done sooner and more affordably for local residents,” Mr Cobb said.
