Joint Media Release: Wi-Fi now available at NSW Central Coast train stations
Thousands of Northern Sydney and Central Coast residents can now experience greater connectivity on their daily commute with free Wi-Fi now available at 19 train stations on the rail line from Hornsby to Wyong.
The new connectivity marks a major milestone for the project, which is also boosting mobile coverage along the 68-kilometre section of the NSW Central Coast and Newcastle Line.
Federal Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, welcomed the new Wi-Fi coverage and said it was great to see work continuing to connect the rail corridor.
“The Morrison Government is committed to improving connectivity and reducing black spots along the Central Coast rail corridor, allowing passengers to use their travel time to work remotely or connect with friends and family,” Minister Fletcher said
Federal Member for Robertson, Lucy Wicks MP said, with more people returning to work, as COVID-19 restrictions ease, the new connectivity will make a real difference for people travelling by train between the Central Coast and Sydney.
“I know from speaking to a number of commuters across the Central Coast, the new free Wi-Fi at train stations and the new mobile coverage we’ve delivered so far will have clear and immediate benefits.”
“This will allow people to be more productive on their journey along the corridor and to stay connected to work and family,” Ms Wicks said.
Federal Member for Berowra, Julian Leeser MP, welcomed the improved productivity that would result from better connectivity.
“The rail corridor is a vital link for many. Significant black spots along the train line have been causing calls to drop out and have made it impossible to work on the train. This project will provide new connectivity and continuous mobile coverage along the rail corridor, helping to boost productivity,” Mr Leeser said.
Background
The Government is investing $12 million through the Central Coast Mobile Coverage and Wi-Fi Project with an extra $4 million contribution from the NSW Government and $13 million from Telstra.
The Hornsby to Wyong rail corridor winds through more than 68 kilometres of track, including several tunnels, hills and valleys creating mobile coverage black spots.
Free Wi-Fi is now available at the following stations:

- Mount Colah
- Mount Kuring-gai
- Narara
- Niagara Park
