Joint Media Release: NDIS invests $15.5m in Disabled Peoples Organisations and Families Organisations across Australia

The Morrison Government today announced the 127 disability organisations to benefit from $15.5 million in Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) grants under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Minister for Families and Social Services, Paul Fletcher said the grants will assist Disabled Peoples Organisations and Families Organisations (DPOs/FOs) build organisational capacity, and that of NDIS participants, their families and carers.

 “114 DPOs and FOs will share in $13.8 million in grants and a further thirteen organisations, led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) or LGBTI communities, will benefit from $1.6 million in grants.

“A wide range of activities have been funded under this grant round, including a strong focus on peer support and other individual capacity building approaches that aim to foster greater inclusion for people with disability, their families and carers,” Mr Fletcher said. 

Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services, Sarah Henderson, said the grant activities will provide a solid base for the new ILC Investment Strategy, released in December last year.

“These grants will strengthen the foundations of the sector in time for the new approach for ILC grants as outlined in the strategy, when we will see four nationally scalable programs that will deliver measurable outcomes for people with disability,” Ms Henderson said.

“Under the Strategy, there will be a range of new NDIA ILC funding opportunities, including further DPFO targeted rounds, available for organisations to apply for.

“The new ILC strategy will provide more opportunities for participants and organisations to build their capacity, with further rounds to be announced over the coming months.

“The NDIS ILC grants are designed to empower people with disability to access their community and achieve their goals,” Ms Henderson said.

“These latest grants are a continuation of the important work of the ILC program that has been promoting collaboration and partnership in local communities since its inception,” Ms Henderson.
