Improved Safety and Traffic Capacity on the Bass Highway

A re-elected Turnbull Government will undertake a significant corridor study to improve
safety and traffic capacity on the Bass Highway between Cooee and Wynyard.

This section of the Bass Highway provides an important link between Burnie and Wynyard.
The $500,000 contribution by a re-elected Turnbull Government will develop an options
report for improved safety and traffic capacity on this important stretch of the Bass Highway
and will be provided to the State Government
The Bass Highway west of Burnie has been a major concern for motorists travelling between
Cooee and Wynyard.
The ‘Camdale crawl’ is not only a cause of driver frustration, but also costs the economy
with many small businesses operating in Cooee and Somerset.
Importantly, the study will also examine solutions to the problem of the single crossing on
the Cam River.
The Turnbull Government is investing a total of $929 million in Tasmanian infrastructure.
This includes the $400 million for the Midland Highway, $59.8 million for Freight Rail
Revitalisation and $25.6 million towards the Brooker Highway.
The Turnbull Government is spending a record $50 billion on land transport infrastructure as
part of our carefully structured economic plan to provide jobs and growth and a secure
future for Australian families.
