Fletcher welcomes Shadow Cabinet appointment

‘I am pleased to have been appointed Manager of Opposition Business in the House, Shadow Minister for Government Services and the Digital Economy, and Shadow Minister for Science and the Arts.  I look forward to serving in the Shadow Cabinet’, Paul Fletcher, Member for Bradfield, said today.

‘Manager of Opposition Business is an important role and will allow me to contribute to the work of the Liberal and National parliamentary team in maintaining close and effective scrutiny of the government.

‘The Digital Economy is a policy space in which I have worked for many years and I believe it to be critical to Australia’s economic future.  In my view it is troubling that the Albanese Government does not have a specific cabinet-level portfolio with this title, and I am pleased that there is such a portfolio in Shadow Cabinet.  Similarly, Government Services rely very heavily on digital technology and networks, and I look forward to holding the government to account in these areas.

‘Both the Science and the Arts sectors are inherently important for their own sake – but they also make vital contributions to Australia’s growth and prosperity.  They are areas where I am pleased to take on shadow portfolio responsibilities.

‘The Shadow Ministry announced today by Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is well balanced.  It contains many experienced members but also sees a number of new faces on the front bench, reflecting the considerable depth of talent in the Liberal and National Party Rooms.  It is particularly pleasing to see the strong representation of women in the Shadow Ministry.’
