Fletcher marks two years as Member for Bradfield

“On the second anniversary of the December 5, 2009 Bradfield by-election, I want to thank the people of Bradfield,” Paul Fletcher Member for Bradfield said today.

“It has been a privilege to represent them in the national Parliament for the last two years.

“It has been a remarkable period.  Since the Bradfield by-election we have seen a change of Prime Minister, a general election, a hung parliament, a series of broken promises from Julia Gillard including introducing a carbon tax she had specifically ruled out during the 2010 election, and a continuation of Labor’s dismal record of debt and deficit – with the 2011-12 deficit now blowing out to $37 billion and debt now to peak at $136 billion.

“Key local priorities have included securing continuity of postal services in Turramurra after Australia Post shut the old post office; pursuing action on Hornsby Hospital; highlighting Labor’s cut of $150m previously set aside for planning the missing M2-F3 link, key to resolving Pennant Hills Road congestion; and fighting for answers for the many constituents affected by fraudulent conduct under Labor’s disastrous pink batts program.

“I’ve also closely scrutinised the national broadband network, and pursued issues in superannuation and financial regulation, including through my work on the Parliament’s NBN Committee and Corporations and Financial Services Committee.

“As I look to the future, I will continue to work hard for the people of Bradfield – and to work with my Coalition colleagues to win the support of the Australian people at the next election, so that we can once again give Australia responsible, capable and consistent government.”
