Congestion relief for Perth’s east as Roe Highway and Kalamunda Road Interchange completed

More than 74,000 commuters in Perth’s eastern suburbs will save up to seven minutes when travelling during peak times with the opening of the Roe Highway and Kalamunda Road Interchange in High Wycombe.

The $86 million project lowered the Roe Highway nine metres beneath Kalamunda Road, with connectivity between the two roads retained by two new roundabouts and new on and off ramps to the highway.

The result has been immediate congestion relief, improved journey times and better safety outcomes at what had previously been one of Perth’s busiest intersections, used by 74,000 vehicles daily.

More than three kilometres of new Principal Shared Path (PSP) for cyclists and pedestrians was also constructed as part of the project.

Extending along the eastern side of Roe Highway between Berkshire Road and Kalamunda Road, the new PSP offers better connectivity between Forrestfield, Maida Vale and High Wycombe.

The project was jointly funded by the Australian Government ($68.8 million) and WA Government ($17.2 million) and supported 600 jobs.
