Congestion and safety improvements in Mount Eliza

A re-elected Turnbull Government will invest $280,000 in a parking and student safety improvement project in Mount Eliza Traffic congestion will decrease, parking will be improved and the risk of injury will be reduced at and around Mount Eliza Primary School under a returned Turnbull Coalition Government.

Minister for Major Projects, Territories and Local Government, The Hon Paul Fletcher MP and Liberal Candidate for Dunkley Chris Crewther announced the Government has pledged $280,000 for the parking and student Safety Improvements Project.

As part of the project, an improved parking area would be created at the corner of Canadian Bay Road and Nepean Highway, upgrading the gravel car park and also installing additional parking spaces and a safe area for pick up and drop off of students.

The project will make the area safer for pedestrians and motorists and improve traffic flow in peak times, particularly around the Mount Eliza Primary school.

The project will also benefit students and families at Mount Eliza Secondary College, St Thomas More Primary School and the Peninsula School.

The funding is in response to concerns raised by members of the ‘Room to Move’ community group and parents which led to the former Member for Dunkley Bruce Billson convening a roundtable in September 2015.

Through collaborative efforts at that roundtable and beyond by Mr Billson, Mornington Peninsula Shire, VicRoads, Member for Mornington, Mr David Morris MP and Parents of the Mount Eliza School district, a viable proposal was developed.

The Turnbull Government is investing a total of $7.6 billion in Victorian infrastructure. In addition, the Turnbull Government remains committed to the East West Link and will provide $3 billion to the first Victorian Government willing to build this vital project.

This Victorian investment includes a $1.5 billion infrastructure plan with $500 million towards the Monash Freeway, $350 million for the M80 Ring Road, and $240 million for the Murray Basin Freight Rail, conditional on the Victorian Government matching this funding dollar for dollar.

In addition, the Turnbull Government has committed $857.2 million for Melbourne Metro.

The Turnbull Government is spending a record $50 billion on land transport infrastructure as part of our carefully structured economic plan to provide jobs and growth and a secure future for Australian families.
