Centenary of Anzac grants now open in Bradfield

Federal Member for Bradfield Paul Fletcher today announced a call for applications for funding from the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program in Bradfield.

‘The Centenary of Anzac will be the most significant national period of commemoration in our nation’s history – as we mark 100 years since the men of the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps came ashore at Anzac Cove on Gallipoli Penninsula on April 25, 2015,’ Mr Fletcher said.

‘The service and sacrifice of the Anzacs began a tradition which continued in WWII, The Korean war, the Vietnam War and more recent conflicts such as in Afghanistan.

‘In Bradfield we are well advanced with our planning for Centenary of Anzac.

‘Nearly two years ago we established a Bradfield Centenary of Anzac Working Party, led by Major Rod White AM RFD (Ret’d).

‘Key stakeholders including the Roseville and Hornsby RSL sub branches as well as Ku-ring-gai Council, Ku-ring-gai Historical Society and local schools and churches are represented on the Working Party.

‘Locally, our community will work together to ensure that we pay appropriate tribute to  people from our area who answered the call to serve their nation – including the many who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of our collective values and beliefs.

‘I am pleased to join with the Working Party in inviting community groups – and individuals - to bring forward proposals for projects which allow us to honour service and sacrifice.

‘There are many different ways this can be done – from traditional dawn services and marches of veterans, through to re-enactments of recruiting marches, school-based education programmes, refurbishing of memorials and honour boards and establishment of new places of commemoration and reflection.

‘The Working Party will assess the proposals – and determine which will receive funding.

‘Under the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program, there is funding available of up to $100,000 per electorate.

‘I encourage all who may be interested in applying for grants to contact my office to obtain the guidelines’, Mr Fletcher concluded.
