Bradfield Marks the ANZAC Centenary Through Local Grants

Member for Bradfield, Paul Fletcher MP, today announced more than $120,000 of grants have been awarded by the Federal Government to support eleven local projects commemorating the Centenary of ANZAC.

“These projects will help mark this vital anniversary and perpetuate the memory of so many Australians who served our nation – and all too often gave their lives.

“They will particularly highlight the service and sacrifice of many Bradfield locals,” Mr Fletcher said.

 The impressive range of projects to be funded includes:

-          a series of publications by the Ku-ring-gai Historical Society called Ku-ring-gai Soldiers of the Great War, Volumes 1-3.  Biographies of all those listed on World War 1 memorials in the Ku-ring-gai area;

-          an annual ‘Memories and Mementos’ event as part of Seniors Week coordinated by the Ku-ring-gai Historical Society

-          installing a commemorative sandstone plinth and plaque at Loreto Normanhurst;

-          installing a ‘Lone Pine’ memorial plaque at Masada College;

-          Constructing an Old Girls memorial at Ravenswood;

-          erecting a stone memorial dedicated to local Volunteer Defence Corps members from the Roseville area by the Roseville RSL Sub-Branch;

-          Ku-ring-gai Council’s ‘Lights of our Lives’ community event;

-          an exhibition at Abbotsleigh where local families can share First World War memorabilia;

-          a commemorative project at Killara High School;

-          a commemorative service and photographic exhibition at the Sydney Jewish Museum;

-          War Letters, a musical project coordinated by the University of Western Sydney, in which letters from the First World War are set to music.

“These projects will complement the wider series of commemorative activities that have been developed throughout our electorate.

“I would like to thank the members of the Electorate Committee I established to help develop our approach for commemorating the Anzac Centenary in Bradfield, in particular Chairman Major Rod White AM, RFD (ret’d} and Mr  Ken Broadhead, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret’d) who was our Deputy Chair and Secretary. Their hard work has been critical in reaching this point,” Mr Fletcher said.

The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program is a key element of the Australian Government’s Anzac Centenary programme, more information is available at www.anzaccentenary.gov.au.
