Bradfield local Bill Bradley announced as finalist in 2014 National Disability Awards

Federal Member for Bradfield Paul Fletcher MP today congratulated Hornsby resident Bill Bradley on being announced as a finalist in the prestigious annual National Disability Awards.

Mr Fletcher said Mr Bradley was one of only 23 finalists chosen across eight categories of the awards, announced this week by the Assistant Minister for Social Services, Senator Mitch Fifield.

“More than 200 nominations were received in the awards this year, so to see Mr Bradley from Hornsby among the finalists is a wonderful achievement,” Mr Fletcher said.

“Bill Bradley has been nominated for the Lesley Hall Award for Lifetime Achievement in Disability, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to volunteer community work while raising a family, working and living with significant disabilities himself. Bill is a leader and role model reaching out to create opportunities for people with a disability to actively engage in community life, particularly in a range of inclusive sports.” Mr Fletcher said.

“I’m very proud that this important and worthwhile work in our local community is getting the national recognition it deserves,” he said.

Mr Bradley will now be invited to attend the national awards event, which will be held at Parliament House in Canberra on Tuesday 25 November.

“Every day in our region, individuals and organisations are working hard to improve the lives of people with disability and increase their opportunities for economic and social participation,” Mr Fletcher said.

“I’d like to acknowledge all those who, through their passion, vision and commitment, are making a substantial contribution in this important area.”

“In particular, I’d like to offer my warmest congratulations to Mr Bradley and wish him the very best of luck for the awards ceremony in November.”

The National Disability Awards are a major part of Australia’s celebrations for the International Day of People with Disability, and help recognise the achievements and contributions of people and organisations in our community.
