Bill Bradley of Hornsby honoured at 2014 National Disability Awards

Federal Member for Bradfield Paul Fletcher MP has congratulated Bill Bradley from Hornsby on receiving the Lesley Hall Award for Lifetime Achievement in Disability at the 2014 National Disability Awards.

Mr Fletcher said Mr Bradley was praised by judges for his efforts as a role model and teacher and for advocating so strongly for the rights of people with disability in being able to participate in many varied sporting arenas.

Mr Bradley is one ten winners from 23 finalists across eight categories, and received the award at a gala event at Parliament House in Canberra last night.

“To see Bill Bradley recognised nationally for the positive work he’s done in our local community, to help achieve equality for people with disability, is a result to be celebrated,” said Mr Fletcher.

“A number of exceptional individuals and organisations were among the finalists and to be chosen for the award is an outstanding achievement. I offer Mr Bradley my warmest congratulations, and thank him for the difference he is making to the lives of people in the electorate of Bradfield.”

“International Day of People with Disability is held next Wednesday and I encourage all Bradfield residents to consider how we can all contribute to achieving a more equal and inclusive Australia,” Mr Fletcher said.

The National Disability Awards are a major part of Australia’s celebrations for the International Day of People with Disability, and help recognise the achievements and contributions of people and organisations in our community.

The awards present an opportunity to acknowledge those helping people with disability to have the same opportunities as all Australians. This includes a quality education, good health, economic security and a job where possible, as well as access to buildings, transport, recreation, cultural activities, strong social networks and support.
