Assistant Infrastructure Minister Jamie Briggs Inspects Pennant Hills Road

Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Jamie Briggs MP last week joined Bradfield MP Paul Fletcher in a visit to Pennant Hills Road.

The Minister and Mr Fletcher also visited the NorthConnex Community Information Centre in Pennant Hills to talk to project staff and view the information available to the community.

“I was keen for the Minister to see the traffic volumes along Pennant Hills Road – particularly at peak hour - to gain an appreciation of the challenges residents face as they navigate to and from work and other commitments.

“The Minister was also impressed by the Community Information Centre and commented on how important thorough community consultation is with large infrastructure projects of this nature,” Mr Fletcher said.

The tunnel will enable commuters and freight trucks to bypass up to 21 traffic lights and reduce travel time by up to 15 minutes. It will also reduce the number of heavy vehicles travelling along Pennant Hills Road by more than 5000 trucks per day.

If the NorthConnex project is approved it is expected construction will commence in early 2015 with the tunnel expected to open to traffic in 2019.

The NorthConnex Community Information Centre is open on Thursdays from 9am to 4pm and is located at 354-356 Pennant Hills Road, Pennant Hills.
