Asquith Girls High School celebrates an Anzac Day Schools’ Award

Federal Member for Bradfield, Paul Fletcher, today congratulated Asquith Girls High School on being the New South Wales secondary school runner-up in this year’s Anzac Day Schools’ Awards.

The Australian Government Anzac Day Schools’ Awards acknowledge secondary and primary schools that have shown an exceptional commitment to Australia’s wartime history through learning and commemorative activities.

“I am very pleased to present Asquith Girls High School with its award which includes a plaque and certificate and $500 in prize money in recognition of its outstanding entry,” said Paul Fletcher.

“Asquith Girls High School received its Anzac Day Schools Award for a thought-provoking service arranged as part of the school’s Anzac Day commemorations. A group of year nine history students presented and performed collected writings detailing experiences from the First and Second World Wars and created a presentation that helped to make the experiences of war relevant to the students and the broader audience. In addition, Captain Karlie Battese from the Australian Defence Force was invited to the Assembly and she spoke about her experience of service in Afghanistan.”

This year’s Anzac Day Schools’ Awards has seen 34 schools from towns and cities across Australia share in $46,000 in prize money through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Commemorations Programme.

“During the Anzac Centenary, a period of significant national commemoration, I encourage all schools in Bradfield to continue learning about the significance of remembering the Anzacs,” Paul Fletcher said.
