$5.4 million roads package for Barker

A re-elected Turnbull Government will invest $5.4 million for a series of road upgrades in Barker.

Minister for Major Projects, Territories and Local Government, The Hon Paul Fletcher MP, and Liberal Member for Barker, Tony Pasin MP, announced the Government has pledged funding for 13 projects under the Black Spot Programme and Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Programme to improve road safety and provide better access for heavy vehicles.

The projects include :

  • Upgrades to the intersection of the Riddoch Highway and Wandilo Road to provide better heavy vehicle safety ($710,000)
  • Upgrades to the intersection of Reedy Creek Rd and Wagenknecht Rd to allow safe turning for HV's and enable B-Double access ($50,000)
  • Upgrades to junctions on Kilsby Road in Mount Gambier and upgrades to Penola-Casterton Road to allow B-double movements ($675,000 and $665,000, respectively)
  • Reconstructing, sealing and upgrading sections of Bordertown-Naracoorte Road ($660,000)
  • Reconstruction of unsealed road to sealed road along 2.5 kilometres of Cole Killanoola Road ($369,000)
  • Safety upgrades to Dergholm Road at Penola, including the installation of an audio tactile line and advisory speed signs ($260,000)
  • Upgrade of signage and installation of turn lane to the intersection of Riddoch Highway with Railway Terrace and Heriot Street at Mount Gambier ($300,000)
  • sealing and upgrading a 4 kilometre section of Kingston Road between Loxton and Pyap.
  • Installation of wire rope safety barrier and delineation upgrade to the South Eastern Freeway between Murray Bridge west exit ramp and Swanport bridge at White Hill ($420,000)
  • Realign approach on Edmund Terrace to a 90 degree intersection with Mannum Road ($145,000)
  • Upgrades to sections of the Sanderston-Mannum Road between Northern Boundary Road and Stockwell Road ($635,000)

The Turnbull Government is committed to supporting councils as they improve safety and fix local roads.

“These projects will make a big difference to the safety of our local road network for both heavy vehicles and everyday drivers,” Mr Pasin said.

The Turnbull Government is investing $2.4 billion in South Australia from 2016-17 to 2019–20 as part of an unprecedented Infrastructure Investment Package of more than $50 billion nationwide.

In 2016-17, local councils in Barker will benefit from $18.4 million in Roads to Recovery funding and around $40 million in Financial Assistance Grants payments.
