$100,000 commitment to Bowens Creek Fire Trail

Residents of the Macquarie electorate and visitors to the region will benefit from the opening of the Bowens Creek Fire Trail, following the announcement today of a $100,000 commitment by the Turnbull Government.

The Hon Paul Fletcher, Minister for Major Projects, Territories and Local Government joined Federal Member for Macquarie, Louise Markus today to announce this commitment.

This funding for the Hawkesbury City Council will allow the Bowens Creek Fire Trail to be opened. The safety benefits for the community will be considerable – particularly by providing an alternative escape route for emergency vehicles from Mount Irvine and for residents and visitors in the Upper Blue Mountains during natural disasters and other emergency situations.

“This project is about saving lives. If by putting this money on the table it saves even one life, then this is definitely worth the investment and that is what is important,” Mrs Markus said.

“The Turnbull Coalition Team is dedicated to building stronger communities across Australia. We understand that by investing in projects such as this one, we help grow a more vibrant and viable community.”

This commitment builds on the significant investment that the Turnbull Government is making in Macquarie in 2016-17, which includes $460,000 under the Black Spots Programme, $4.6 million in Roads to Recovery payments, $3.6 million under the National Stronger Regions Fund and $920,000 under the Bridges Renewal Programme.

The Turnbull Government is also spending $2.5 million on the Ross Street Intersection upgrade, $20 million on the Richmond Bridge and $27.8 million on the Great Western Highway – Mount Victoria Village Safety Works, which will all bring significant benefit to Macquarie residents.
