Increased Aircraft Noise Over Bradfield
There have been concerns of increased aircraft movements over parts of the electorate of Bradfield this summer.
I am represented on the SACF – Sydney Aircraft Community Forum – which meets quarterly to discuss issues arising from the implementation of Sydney’s noise-sharing plan (LTOP).
I asked my representative on SACF to raise the issue of increased noise at its most recent meeting, and at the meeting of SACF’s technical committee.
I have received a report following these meetings from my representative.
There have been increased movements over Bradfield. This has largely been as a result of Sydney’s wet and cloudy weather, as well as wind patterns this summer. Low visibility conditions have required aircraft to join the central landing approach further north than usual. Low visibility conditions also result in more landings taking place on instruments which means that landing paths occur on a more precise track and therefore can cause an increased concentration over certain areas.
It is anticipated that with the end of summer weather patterns, concentration over Bradfield will lessen.
Another factor in play is that repairs to the southern runway have increased the landings from the north. As the southern runway becomes fully operational, this should be another factor which should lessen concentrated movements over Bradfield.
It is important that residents who are adversely affected make that fact known for inclusion in the central reporting system. I would therefore encourage you to lodge a formal noise complaint with Airservices Australia. You can do so by calling 1800 802 584 or via the website at https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/ncm/default.asp
