The Coalition's Policy on Cosmetic Animal Testing
The Coalition Government is committed to the protection of animals from chemical testing. In the 2016 election the Coalition campaigned on a platform of banning the practice of cosmetic testing on animals and in 2017 we introduced the Industrial Chemicals Bill 2017 to fulfil this commitment.
The proposed legislation will bring Australia into line with the EU and other countries by introducing a ban on cosmetic testing on animals. Like the EU, the legislation allows for animal test data to be considered as a last resort. This is important to protect human health, worker safety and the environment. The Animal Justice Party of Australia has declared their support for the robust protection of animals that the Coalition Government has proposed.
