Support for flood-affected communities

To date, the total amount of joint Commonwealth and New South Wales Government recovery funding provided to support flood affected communities is almost $1billion. This is providing support to small businesses, primary producers, councils, households, and families hard hit by the devastating floods and includes a $285.2 million temporary housing package and grants for primary producers and small business.

This package is in addition to the continuing Australian Defence Force assistance and a range of financial assistance already announced, with personnel available for tasking since 4 March to support damage assessment, access to and clean-up of critical infrastructure and essential services.

A range of assistance is being provided to flood affected communities across Queensland and New South Wales through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) including:

  • Personal Hardship Assistance for eligible flood-affected residents in many locations.
  • an initial $558.5 million in jointly funded financial support for flood-affected Queensland small businesses, farmers, not-for-profit organisations, and sporting and community clubs.
  • $4.37 million range of disaster recovery grants to support NSW businesses, primary producers, not-for-profits, councils and communities impacted by flood and storm damage.
  • assistance to cover the cost of the massive clean-up efforts.

The Morrison Government has acted swiftly to deliver more than $862 million in Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) and Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) for 755,000 claims to over one million flood affected people.

The easiest and quickest way to claim the Disaster Recovery Payment and Disaster Recovery Allowance is online through myGov. Online claiming is available 24/7. If you know anyone who requires support to claim, they can call the Australian Government Emergency Information Line on 180 22 66, open Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm local time.
