Leadership of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation

As legislated by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983 , the ABC is run entirely independently of the Government of the day. This is to ensure the ABC acts solely in the interests of the Australian public.

The ABC Board of Directors are appointed based on a strict selection criteria to ensure a merit-based process.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act requires that Directors must be experienced in broadcasting, communications or management, or have expertise in financial or technical matters, or have cultural or other interests relevant to the provision of broadcasting services.

This is the basis on which directors have been chosen – not their political affiliation.
