The hidden benefits of Bradfield's coveted property

Most people in Bradfield know that property in our area is highly sought after. If you visit any auction or open house in Bradfield on a Saturday you are likely to see a large crowd of prospective buyers very keen to join our community.

Many may not realise, though, that the property industry is a major employer in our area.  Almost 13 per cent of all jobs in the electorate of Bradfield are in the property sector - second only to the health care and social assistance sector – according to a recent report by the AEC Group.

There are 17, 875 direct and indirect jobs in the property sector in Bradfield – the majority of them being tradespeople – and these contribute more than $1 billion to the local economy each year.

Of course as new housing gets built in Bradfield – often in the form of new apartment blocks replacing older freestanding homes – it is important that we maintain the natural beauty and distinctive heritage of our area.

At the same time, this report reminds us that this new housing stock not only delivers accommodation for new residents who are able to join our local community, it also brings jobs and income for those who already live and work here, especially the many small businesses in the construction sector.
